Take Action
Little things add up. Really.
There's no one magic fix for the ocean. But loads of small things, done together, can actually turn this around. Here's where to start.
You
What you can do
- Choose certified sustainable seafood (MSC, ASC) — or eat less of it.
- Refuse single-use plastics. One reusable bottle saves 167 a year.
- Pick up trash on your nearest waterway, not just the beach.
- Use phosphate-free detergents and avoid lawn fertilizer near drains.
Community
What your community can do
- Organize a local clean-up — rivers feed the sea.
- Push schools and offices to ban single-use plastics.
- Support fishers using line-caught and low-impact methods.
- Educate. Share what you learn here.
Government
What governments must do
- Ratify the WTO Fisheries Subsidies Agreement.
- Back a strong, binding UN Plastics Treaty.
- Expand Marine Protected Areas to 30% by 2030.
- Modernize wastewater treatment and farm runoff regulation.
2030 isn't that far away.
SDG 14 isn't some far-off dream — it's a deadline. Every year we wait, we lose stuff we can't get back. The ocean has had our backs forever. Time to return the favour.
